Three original ScratchJr missions for ages 5–7, with a grown-up. Allow 15–20 minutes per mission, plus time to explore.
Before you begin
Have the separate ScratchJr app ready on a compatible tablet. Visit scratchjr.org for official installation information.
Use any character or draw a robotic whippet in the paint editor. These lessons do not require imported assets.
Read aloud, share the tablet, and ask the child what they think will happen before each test.
Help without taking over
Try: “What did you want to happen?”, “Which block could we change?”, and “Shall we test just that bit?” Mistakes are clues.
For access: point to blocks as you name them; accept spoken, drawn or acted-out plans; take breaks and work at the child’s pace. A child can direct a grown-up who handles the tablet.
Save work using the app’s home button. Keep projects and recordings on your device; ask before sharing.

MISSION 01 / SEQUENCING / 15 MIN
Wake up, Solor!
Solor says: “Beep boop! My paws need a plan. Can you help me walk towards the sunshine?”
Learning goal: Put instructions in order and predict what happens.
Green flag → Right 4 → Say hello → End
Open ScratchJr and tap + to make a project. Choose a background. Keep the cat, or draw your own robot dog in the paint editor.
Select your character. Join Start on Green Flag → Move Right (4) → Say “Hello, sunshine!” → End. Tap the number under Move Right to change it to 4.
Predict where your character will go. Tap the green flag to run your program. Drag your character back to its starting spot before testing again.
Extra sunshine challenge
Change 4 to 2. Predict what changes, then test it. Can you make your character walk back using Move Left?
Tell your grown-up
What happens if you put Say before Move Right?

SOLORPOWEREDWIPPET.PARTY / ORIGINAL MISSION CARDMISSION 02 / REPETITION / 20 MIN
The sunshine shuffle
Solor says: “My dance circuit is ready. Let’s make a pattern, then let a repeat block do the hard work!”
Learning goal: Use a repeat block to run a short pattern three times.
Green flag → Repeat 3 × [ Right 2 · Left 2 ] → End
Make a new project or use your robot dog. Place your character near the middle of the stage.
Join Start on Green Flag → Repeat (3) → End. Put Move Right (2) and Move Left (2) inside the orange Repeat block.
Predict the finish position. Run the program. Solor should return to the starting spot after each pair of moves.
Extra sunshine challenge
Add a Hop block inside the repeat. What happens when you change the repeat number to 5?
Tell your grown-up
How many Move Right actions happen when the repeat number is 3? (Answer: 3.)

SOLORPOWEREDWIPPET.PARTY / ORIGINAL MISSION CARDMISSION 03 / STORYTELLING / 20 MIN
A very robot party
Solor says: “Party protocol activated! Give me a friend and tell a tiny story with a beginning and an ending.”
Learning goal: Make two characters take turns using a message.
Dog: Green flag · Say · Send orange · End → Friend: Orange message · Hop 2 · Say · End
Choose two characters: a robot dog and a friend. Give them a party background using the paint editor.
For the dog, join Start on Green Flag → Say “Party time!” → Send Message (orange) → End.
Select the friend. Join Start on Message (orange) → Hop (2) → Say “Hooray!” → End. Match the message colours. Run with the green flag.
Extra sunshine challenge
Record a short celebration sound using ScratchJr’s sound recorder and add it to the friend’s program. Ask a grown-up before recording.
Tell your grown-up
Why does the friend wait for the orange message?
